The FOUR Muslims! Which one are you?

Rand Corporation divides Muslims into four categories. Not only that, they also provided a specific percentage of the Muslims belonging to each category.

1. Fundamentalists.

What the organization says? According to the organization these Muslims adhere to The Islamic Fundamentalism & has been described as “highly politicized religious ideology popularized in the 20th century through movements within both the Shi‘a and Sunni branches of Islam—characterized by aggressiveness and a reformist attitude toward traditional Islam.”

What the organization believes? Fundamentalists are those who strictly adhere to the fact that  Islam is not just a Religion but a complete way of life—socio-politico-economic Order.

 2. Traditionalists.

What the organization says? The authors describe the Traditional or orthodox Islam, as non-politicized Islam. The Traditionalist Muslims include the adherents of all the Sunni and Shi‘a sects as well as the Ibadi sect. The followers of Islamic mysticism (Sufism) or mystic brotherhoods are also included in this category.

What the organization believes? Traditionalists are those who are satisfied with establishing madrasas and teaching children to memorize Quran in Arabic language. They have easy access to public as they  have the stage to give sermons on Jumuah (Friday according to sun calender)) and other important Islamic days. Therefore, it is essential to keep them busy fighting with each other by giving importance to maslaks/sects (click here to read what Qur’an tells us about sects). Alone, the traditionalists are not dangerous. But if they come in contact with the fundamentalists, they will become very dangerous for the anti-Islamic movements.

 3. Modernists.

What the organization says? Islamic modernism is described as a reform    movement that started in the 19th century by “politically-minded western-educated Muslims” who had “scant knowledge of traditional Islam.” They blamed the technological weakness of the Muslim world on the ‘traditional Islam’ and called for a complete overhaul of Islam, particularly the Islamic law (sharia) and doctrine.

What the organization believes? Modernists interpret Islam in consonance with modern Western culture. So, support them and give them exposure in the media.

4. Secularists.

What the organization believes?

They are our own. They don’t think of Islam as a socio-politico-economic Order at all.

 Conclusion drawn by the organization:

The real enemies of the Anti-Islamic organizations are the first two categories: the Fundamentalists and the Tradionalists. The Modernaists claim to be true to Islam but  prefer not to implement Islamic guidelines on themselves. And as far as the Secularists are concerned, they themselves are anti-Islamic.
